Should you partner with this person? The I Ching looks at where this relationship is heading, not at how reliable the person seems.
What this page is (self-contained)This page is about "Should I partner with this person?". It does not answer should you or should you not. It breaks the question into one path across three hexagrams: 坤, 同人, 谦, standing for three different sticking points. Reading it gives you checkable facts (number, trigrams, inner hexagram) and one step you can take today. It gives no verdict, predicts nothing, and does not decide for you.
Anyone who tells you whether to partner is making the call with information you do not have. This page will not judge the person. It does one thing: it shows you which parts of this are settled, and which were never yours to settle.
Part one · One path, not three answers
First These three are not three answers. They are three positions on one path: you give first, you meet, and then you each either hold the shape or lose it. What connects them: the middle one is about whether the relationship becomes real, and the last one decides where it goes from there.
This one: you went first, and nobody asked whether you wanted to. It is where the relationship starts, and for many it is where it ends.
You are holding things up for other people, and nobody has ever asked whether you wanted to. Work arrives and you take it, and nobody says this was ever supposed to be yours. It keeps getting easier for everyone else, and it keeps getting harder for you to say no. You are not unable to refuse. You are carrying the whole cost of refusing on your own.
Does this sound like you
It keeps getting easier for people around you because you keep taking it.
I said I could not do it, and then I believed it myself.
I have to arrange everything before I allow myself to rest.
The credit goes to everyone else. The mess is mine.

In one line
Isomorphism means the same rule acting again and again. Change the rule and the isomorphism is broken.
One action
Write down the last thing you took on without being asked, and one from three years ago, and see whether it is the same rule.
One question
Did I choose this, or was I trained into it?
Do just this today
Today, write down one thing you always absorb, send it to someone, and say plainly that you are at your limit.
What this does not doThis does not tell you to push back, and it does not tell you to keep going. It only makes visible that once carrying becomes the default, nobody asks you any more.
Most likely misuseThe easiest misuse is to use it to justify enduring. Endless carrying is not virtue. It is a problem that has not been said out loud.
How this moves forwardMoving from 'you are already contributing' to 'you met but have not really got to know each other' depends not on meeting, but on whether there was any moment where the truth could be said. Without such a moment, contributing only accrues a debt instead of building a relationship.
Second stop · you met, but do not really know each other yet
This one: everyone is present, the mood is fine, and the one thing you actually care about goes unaddressed. This is the most common stop in a partnership: everyone works hard, and the direction is never actually opened up.
You are among people, and something in you is going unheard. There is a lot of activity around you and the atmosphere is good, and nobody joins the thing you actually care about. When you say something slightly different, you watch the room politely move the conversation on.
Does this sound like you
I speak and nobody picks it up in a group.
Say anything different and the subject gets moved on.
I fit in, and nobody knows what I actually think.
I said it with a laugh and still felt it on the walk home.
Judge by the exchange, not the volume. Without exchange, no amount of loudness gets you in sync.
One action
Find one person and tell them the one thing you have genuinely been weighing lately. See if they meet it.
One question
Am I waiting for everyone to listen, or waiting for one person to truly hear?
Do just this today
Today, talk to one person for twenty minutes about the thing you are stuck on, not about work.
What this does not doThis does not tell you to leave the group, and it does not tell you to stay. It only lets you tell busy from heard, which are two different things.
Most likely misuseThe easiest misuse is to turn it into a story about how hard it is to find a kindred spirit. More often, the right person has simply not been asked yet.
How this moves forwardMoving from 'not really known' to 'where this goes' depends not on whether you still get along, but on whether each side's position and credit can be stated. If not, the relationship stays where it is, both sides waiting.
This one decides the ending: whether you can both say clearly where you stand and what you are owed. If you can, the relationship is real. If you cannot, a good beginning still comes apart.
You have the results, and you are still not using them. You feel you are not qualified yet. So you keep adding, keep staying low-key, and keep waiting until things are more ready. The opening came several times and each time you decided it was not time. When people mention you, they say you are dependable.
Does this sound like you
I have done a great deal and cannot talk about any of it.
I never feel like I am qualified enough.
When the opening came, my first words were I am not ready.
People remember I am nice. They do not remember what I have done.
Capacity is what has not been filled yet. What is already full cannot take anything new.
One action
Write the one thing you finished this year in three sentences, and send it to someone who might need it.
One question
Who is the approval I am waiting for? And are they ever going to come and ask me?
Do just this today
Today, tell one person about one thing you finished. Once.
What this does not doThis does not tell you to step forward, and it does not tell you to stay hidden. It only asks: who set the bar you keep failing to clear, and are they ever going to come ask?
Most likely misuseThe easiest misuse is to turn this into a lecture about being humble. Staying modest is a choice. Treating your own absence as a virtue gets you skipped by the system, quietly and permanently.
How this path works, and where it breaks
How this path runs: you give first, you genuinely meet, and then each of you either holds the shape or loses it. The most common break is between the first two stops — you have been giving, and there has never been anywhere to say the true thing, so you concluded that this person does not understand you. And the last stop is mutual: you both have to be able to say where you stand and what you are owed. If neither can, a good beginning still comes apart.

Number, trigrams, inner hexagram, reversed, inverted, palace and seasonal phase all come from the original I Ching text and can be checked.
The arrangement (which three hexagrams, in what order, with what bridges) and the situation descriptions are original to this project. They are not an authoritative reading of the original.
Part two · The honest part
This page will not tell you to partner, and it will not tell you not to. It will say the thing almost nobody says first: most partnerships do not fall apart because one person was bad. They fall apart because nobody ever said out loud who holds what, and who owes what. Then both sides quietly keep score, and at the end neither can say what they put in. Nothing broke. The relationship just stopped being there.
Part two · Which one is you
Do not overthink it. Pick the closest one. Claiming it yourself is more reliable than being guessed at.
Nothing here generates a prediction, and nothing you pick is uploaded.
