Ji Ji: You finished, and the small errors started

This page describes a situation. It gives no verdict. The number, trigrams and inner hexagram are all checkable.
Answer first (self-contained)Ji Ji (hexagram 63, 坎 over 离) describes this kind of situation: You finished, and the small errors started. It does not predict anything and it does not decide for you. It does one thing: it makes visible which dynamic you are currently inside, so you can recognise whether you are in it. There are three ways to check. First, the situation itself: You finished, and the small errors started. Second, three checkable facts below (the number, the two trigrams, and the inner hexagram). Third, the three steps at the bottom, and whether you have done any of them.

What situation this is

The main thing worked. It came out. And you have started to notice small errors. Time is tighter. The detail is rougher. What you promised is looser. Each one is only a little, and each one is still tolerable. All of them are going the other way. This one does not need a big move. It needs a small one.

How it differs from the neighbours

Previous hexagram Zhong Fu (hexagram 62) describes: You have lied to no one, and nobody believes you.
Next hexagram Wei Ji (hexagram 64) describes: It is not finished, and you already treat it as finished.
The inner hexagram (internal force) The inner hexagram is 未济. The situation on this page is what is visible; Wei Ji is not yet finished, so a completed thing is already one step from being unfinished. is what has been going on inside it. They are different layers, and reading one as the other is the usual mistake.

Three steps you can take today

  1. The strongest zone is the threshold. How far you are from it has to be measured first.
  2. Write down the three things most likely to slip now that it is done.
  3. Are these small slips adding up, or are they staying inside a limit?

Do just this today Today, fix the smallest slip and change nothing else.

Does this sound like you

How this path works, and where it breaksJi Ji is completed, and Wei Ji inside it says completed is one step away from unfinished. So the next step is the smallest slip, fixed alone, and not touching the parts that are still working.
Inner hexagram: the internal forceWei Ji is not yet finished, so a completed thing is already one step from being unfinished.
What this hexagram does not doThis does not tell you to celebrate, and it does not tell you to be careful. It only says that where you are now, chance and risk arrived together. What the next step is matters more than how good this is.
Most likely misuseThe easiest misuse is reading it as stay humble after success. It is that finishing is where the risk starts. The thing to worry about is not being content enough. It is what comes next.
